Cáceres was founded in 25 b. c. by Cayo Normado Flaco. It was invaded by the Muslims and reconquered by the Christians and from 1229 the construction of palaces and buildings start, especially from the 14th to the 16th century.

The monumental landmarks in Cáceres have both civil and religious buildings. It was declared Heritage for Mankind by the UNESCO in 1986.
