It is situated in the north of the province of Cáceres on the “Ruta de la Plata ”. It is a medieval town founded by King Alfonso VIII.

It has a great historical and artistic heritage closely linked to the monarchy and the Church since it was the Episcope See and also it was a cultural and study centre having three universities in those days.

Near Plasencia is the Jerte Valley and Monfrague Nacional park
